I have a Microsoft 365 business premium license but have both Microsoft 365 Apps for business and Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise installed on my system plus another Microsoft 365 entry. This occurs only on some computers in our environment where others have one or the other. What is the trigger for both of these to be installed? I deploy Office 365 with Intune if that helps.

I have this same issue. I completely uninstalled all Office apps on multiple users and then installed direct from the user's account on the Office website. Checked the Add/Remove programs list and found only one installed. Came back a week later and both were there again.

I have the same issue at a client where they deploy Office apps via InTune.
After joining the machine to Azure AD and then signing in with a Microsoft account in that domain, "Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise" shows as installed.
At some later time "Microsoft 365 Apps for Business" also shows up in Installed Apps. I did some experimenting - ran Word and Excel while only the Enterprise instance showed, but they did not trigger any immediate addition of Business. Then I tried the same with OneDrive, then Teams, and they didn't seem to correlate either. I uninstalled the "Business" instance, and it went through a whole uninstall process. I was pretty convinced the apps would be gone when it completed. But all of the Office apps are still installed and intact with just the original "Enterprise" instance installed.
This remained as-is, after logging off and on, rebooting, etc. Then, I logged in as a different licensed user and after a few minutes the "Enterprise" instance changed its name to "Business"!
I logged back in with the original user account, and shortly thereafter, "Enterprise" was showing alongside another instance of "Business" again! I sure hope someone at MS can explain (and better yet, prevent it).

Could you please tell us how did you install or deploy your Office 365 Apps for business?
Such as via running ODT and configuration file (.xml file)? If so, I suggest you share us with this .xml file for a better analysis. I would check the Product ID and other information on .xml file.
Have you installed any other Office products before on those computers?
This may happen if other Office was not completely uninstalled.
Currently. I would suggest you select on computer, search CMD, right-click the Command Prompt and run as administrator. Then copy and paste the command below in it, click Enter at last:
cscript.exe "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs" /dstatus
(If you are running 32-bit Office on a 64-bit operating system)
cscript.exe "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs" /dstatus

I have been having this issue since moving to Intune last year, so I would love an answer, but looks like we get yet more crickets from Microsoft. Nothing like having a monopoly.
I deploy Office using the Microsoft 365 Apps for Windows 10 64-bit built into Intune. I don't deploy a custom configuration file other than what the app provides.

I suggest you use Office tool to uninstall All Office applications completely from PC, deploy Office with ODT but not Intune directly and check the result if you will also get 3 apps in Control Panel. In my opinion this problem may related to the wrong options are selected and deployed in Intune.

I have the same problem, also with Business Premium.
I created an intune M365 app, selected channel, applications word/excel, and assigned it to my machines.
First the machine gets an m365 enterprise installation with word/excel. So far so good, but with the install name 'm365 for enterprise'
After a while , maybe after a start of word/excel, windows starts a new installation with 'm365 for Business'.
So i end up with m365 for business AND m365 for enterprise. With ALL applications word/excel/powerpoint/publisher/...
That's not what i asked for :-(
I created a ticket for this with microsoft, seems like intune installs office only with m365 enterprise, and windows corrects it somehow to the license you own.
I think I found a workaround. Create an office install template on office.microsoft.com . Choose the correct office version . Copy the XML into the intune template.
Then only the o365business premium is installed.
Please let me know if that works for you.
If I get news from Microsoft i will post it here.

I'm glad I found this thread as I have experienced the same issue.
We have 365 Business Premium licences.
I'm in the process of testing an AutoPilot deployment and had created a new entry in InTune apps for Microsoft 365 Apps.
I used the wizard in the web gui to configure the available office applications and assigned it to my test group.
The AutoPilot configuration had installed Office under the heading 'Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise'.
The first thing that alerted me that something was happening was the random installation of Skye for Business. It suddenly appeared on the Start Menu.
It was only when I checked Programs and Features that I discovered I now also had 'Microsoft 365 Apps for business'
I have used the office deployment tool https://config.office.com/deploymentsettings to create a new XML file and have configured a new app entry for Microsoft 365 Apps using that. The installation has worked and is listed as 'Microsoft 365 Apps for business'. Hopefully that will resolve it.
It's a bit of a shame that we still have to use the XML file for deployment. But if it works I'll be happy.

I have a question related to this. Could this be update channels issue? So if you have a Business Premium license your version of O365 would be 365 apps for business; that gets installed via the user log on or auto download -however it's configured in intune - However, if an admin configures O365 apps to current channel updates, perhaps that's where the Enterprise install is coming from?
