SCVMM and IP pools

Hi,
We would like to use networks without IP Pools since we use 3rd party IPAM and deployment tools for IP handling. Now in earlier deployments, we created VLANs / Networks and also configured IP pools because the SCVMM GUI forced us to do so. But in the new SCVMM we're now able to create networks without IP pools.

Since multiple people have been creating VMs and sometimes they connected them to IP pools by accident. Now when trying to move VMs to a different cluster, we're seeing that some VMs have a static and some a dynamic connection with an IP pool and we're not sure how to remove them from the IP pool without causing network interruption. We noticed that in some cases SCVMM switches the VM networking to DHCP and the VM gets an apipa address.

Is there a way to make sure SCVMM doesn't touch the VM networking and IP remain as they are?

Gr
Gabrie

    Hi there,

Yes, it is possible to do that. In VMM your physical networks are defined as logical networks. Logical networks are a useful way of abstracting your underlying physical network infrastructure. Logical network settings will match or mirror your physical network environment.

For example, the IP addresses and VLAN properties will match exactly, a network site in a logical network will contain configuration settings for the site.
