Windows 2016 patch(KB4561616), install slow and pending for long

When I deployed 2020June-Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016(KB4561616), the installation progress was pending on the beginning for more than 3 hours, and I checked the CBS log it repeatedly shows "DPX progress **", any advise? Thanks! ![![18648-image-13.png

If there is WSUS server configured for Windows Update?

This is unfortunately an known issue, there are many threads about this slowness issue, one of the biggest over here.

If installation is extremely slow, check your event logs for errors. Also do check task manager and resource manager to see if your server(s) is running low on resources like IOPs or RAM.

Thank your for your answer, I deployed the patch manually by double click the patch source file.

I also checked the OS performance during the deployment, cpu usage around 16%, memory is arrange 45% and the disk space it normal.

I am curious about the "DPX progress **" keep showing in CBS for hours while there is no progress in installation.

I am not sure if the slowness is related it. For the CBS log, please refer to attached file.

Hi,

There is the line saying Not able to add file to extract: update.ses
You receive a "0x80070002" error code after you download an update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services

For issues, where in the updates are repeatedly installed, try to uninstall and reinstall the updates which are repeatedly installed.

And have you installed the SSU（KB4562561）?
To get the standalone package for the latest SSU, search for it in the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Also, try using windows update troubleshooter and do all manual steps to reset windows update components.
