excel is taking a long time to sort my speadsheet based on highlighted cell

Question

I have a list of names numbers and addresses that I will trying to sort based on the phone number. I have been highlighting the duplicate numbers and then sorting the sheet by highlighted cell . When I do this it is taking almost an hour to sort 50k lines of data . How can i speed this up. Computer has 16gig of ram.

Did your Workbook contain cell formats or formulas?
I suggest you try these methods:

1. Change Calculation mode to manually, go to Formula tab- Calculation Options- select Manual:
   
2. Select all cells (Ctrl + A), go to Home tab- Editing- Clear- Clear Formats:
