How can I find my AKS cluster's external IP address. I used to find that on the portal but not anymore.

Adding to shiva response, you can also try this within the cluster by running below command.
kubectl get svc kubernetes -n default

From the AKS overview page , can you pick up the API Server FQDN address and do a nslookup or ping ?

I did that but the IP didn't match the external IP address I have as a resource in Azure Portal for my AKS resource group.
Any ideas?
Can you kindly explain here with relevant screen shots to understand what exactly you are looking for ?
If you have deployed an application as a POD and if that POD is exposed via a service of type LoadBalancer - then in those scenarios you will see an External IP.
