@Steve Bailey Did you install SharePoint updates from Windows updates previously?
As best practices, we suggest you install SharePoint updates via downloading these updates and installing manually instead of Windows updates because deploying SharePoint updates via Windows updates maybe cause some unknown issues.

You were correct - I had to install the updates manually, they always failed through Microsoft Update.
I tried 2 ways to download the updates, through each KB article and through the Microsoft Update Catalog. The updates failed when installing through the Update Catalog, so the only way, was to download each KB executable through the specific KB article.
