Question

Not able to create folder even for contribute access in SharePoint online site

Migrated site and document libraries from WSS 3.0 to SharePoint Online. Did workaround to achieve it. First migrated WSS 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010. Then migrated from SPF2010 to SharePoint online to migrate with access details.

After migration, user is not able to create folder. Verified the access at library level as well subfolder level (using manage access). All the levels user is having Contribute access. I removed the access and granted again Contribute access. And also verified Permission Level of Contribute also. Everything is fine.

Still not able to find the root cause / solution. Please advise.

You could check whether "New Folder" command is available in Library settings > Advanced settings:

Already "New Folder" command is available. The user is not able to create folder as well not able to delete the file also.

You could try to delete some folders using powershell:

Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue  
   
$siteURL = "http://sharepoint.crescent.com/sites/sales"

$folderToDelete = "v2"  
     
#Get the Web  
$web = Get-SPWeb $siteURL

$folders = $web.Folders[$listName].SubFolders  
   
Foreach ($folder in $folders)  
{  
    if ($folder.Name -match $folderToDelete)  
    {
