Costs for Unused VPN Gateway

Hello,

i have configured a VPN Gateway. It works very well with my local machine. But i have a question about the Costs.

The Configuration exists one day. Yesterday i have connected my local machine two times with the vpn Gateway, for about one hour. Only for testing.
It is VpnGw2 and today i have to pay 10,33€ for VPN Gateway.

So i think, i have to pay for the configuration without connection, every day about this price (10€). But i dont need the Tunnel all the time.

Can i set the VPN Tunnel something like "obsolete", or must i delet the Configuration, if i dont want to pay for every day without using it.

Hi,
The VPN Gateway pricing is clear. You pay per hour no matter if there are connections or not. As long as you have the VPN Gateway resource deployed you will be charged. After all on the backend there are servers that are running behind the Gateway resource.

thanks for your fast answer.

Sorry, if this looks so, but i have nothing to complain about the costs.

But i only want to have a good way, if i only need the tunnel sometimes.

For Example: I have seen the CSV-Export. Can i delete the Gateway and if i need it, could i do a fast configuration with this file. Or could i use powershell for fast configuration.

Or is there another way?

Hi,
You can create and delete the gateway at any time. The charge is for the hour so I think if you have it for 10 mins you will probably pay the full hour. You can automate the deployment in any way you want - Az PowerShell, Az CLI, ARM/Bicep. When you deploy from portal usually that results in doing ARM Template deployment. Before creating the gateway look for Automation options links at the end of the review. It will give you probably ARM Template and parameters file that you can use to deploy the resource all over again. Keep in mind that if there is some unique name that is already taken you will need to change it. Additionally you can also try export template functionality. This will also give you ARM template that you can use to deploy the resource when it is needed. Keep in mind that export template functionality is not always perfect so if there are any issues you might need to edit the template.
