Long-term Backup Retention (LTR) in Azure SQL Managed Instance used in Production

Based on https://azure.microsoft.com/en-ca/updates/longterm-backup-retention-ltr-for-azure-sql-managed-instance-in-public-preview/ with published date of March 17, 2021, the long-term backup retention (LTR) for Azure SQL Managed Instance is still in public preview. Is there an update on how soon it will be moved to the general available (GA) status?

We have tested LTR in our DEV environment and then used it in one of our Production SQL MIs wherein we have deleted some databases that are no longer in use but we are retaining its backups for 6 months. With the feature still in public preview, is there a possibility that our backups will lose if changes to this feature occur before the general release?

Long term back up retention in Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure SQL are already in General availability since December 2021.
