Hello @Hammad Nadeem ,

As mentioned by @Pradeep Kommaraju , you cannot change the OS of your Azure VM. It is not supported.
You should create a new Azure virtual machine that is running the supported version of the operating system that is required and then migrate your workload.

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q & A Platform .

Regarding your question , Azure doesn't support the OS Type change osDisk.osType .

Also you can make copies of OS disk and use them to swap with available backups in the DR situations

It's pretty bad that you can't do this. It means a lot of extra cost have two VMs running for a while so as to deal with a problem that is caused by Microsoft. ie. because Microsoft provide an inadequate solution, it's customers have to pay extra for it. That is not is a poor way to operate and treat customers.
