SSU installed without the CU?

This is something odd that I have not seen since they combined the SSU and the CU. Server owner came to me asking why the January CU was not installed on their server. It should have installed on Jan 14th, which is its last maintenance window. Unfortunately my updatesdeployment.log is rolled over, so I cannot go look or provide any snippets.

Long story short, when I ran Get-HotFix on the machine, I found that on Jan 14th, KB5008287 was installed, but not the CU. After doing some digging, it seems that this is the KB for the latest SSU. Its not available in the MS catalog or in SCCM since the SSU is part of the CU.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why the SSU is showing up separately from the CU? What is the install behavior now with the SSU and the CU combined?

    Hi @John Williamson

Could we check we just deploy the SSU update KB5008287 to the update, not the CU? Please check it on the sccm console.

To deploy the cumulative update and servicing stack update separately, no special action is needed. Just ensure, as always, that you deploy the SSU prior to deploying the LCU so that both updates install successfully on the device, so I doubt we just deploy the SSU, if so, we just deploy the CU again.

What is the install behavior now with the SSU and the CU combined?

When you deploy the update package to your devices, the client will automatically orchestrate the proper ordering of installation to ensure the SSU and LCU are both applied correctly on the device.
