Greetings,

If I remove the DP role from a server in CM 2107, which folders have to be manually deleted?
Anything else that needs to be manually deleted? e.g. IIS config?

Thanks
David Z

On primary site, you shouldn't remove any of these folder even the DP role is removed. They are needed to distribute the content to other DP's where needed and these folders get created default with/without DP enabled on the primary site.
RemoteInstall is for PXE enabled DP. So if your DP on the primary site not PXE any longer, you can remove this but not the other folders.

    What is your end goal?

Removal of the DP from console, will remove the IIS and the contentlib folders. There are cases that i have seen, the contentlib folder dont get remove so we will check the DP removal status from the log and confirm this is completed successfully before i rename the contentlib folder and then delete after 1-2 days.

    Thanks,

The folders that still exist after removal are:

    RemoteInstall
    SCCMContentLib
    SMS_DP$
    SMSPKG<drive>$
    SMSPKGSIG

Can all these be safely removed? The server that had the DP role removed is the primary site server.

end goal is moving the DP role away from the primary site server to a dedicated DP server.
I thought we would end up with alot more free disk space but from what you are saying, those folders are still needed even if its no longer a dp.

    Hi, @David Zemdegs

Like EswarKoneti-MVP said, these folders are needed to distribute the content to other DP's, the documentation mentioned:
The site automatically creates and maintains a copy of the content library on each site server and each distribution point.

You may consider to configure a remote content library for the primary site server:
