Opening pdf document that exists in Sharepoint from My Client application

Hi,

We are developing a client web application in which the documents are stored in Sharepoint. We need to preview and save PDF documents in Web browser. We are able to do so from the Sharepoint UI using Abode Document Cloud. We need the same preview on clicking the document from our web application.

When we try to open the document with Sharepoint URL it is using the Browser viewer.

At the document library level, we could go to Library settings>Advanced settings>Open in the client application:

If you want to enable this at site collection level, please go to Site information>View all site settings>Site Collection features> activate the feature as shown below:

Then make sure that the document library settings point to the client:

We were able to open the word documents in the client application. We are having issue with PDF documents. We have followed Abode integration with Sharepoint (Ref:
office365-configuring-sharepoint-onedrive.html.
)

Now on clicking the document from sharepoint UI, the pdf is opening in document cloud and we were able to save the document back to sharepoint. But we need this functionality from our web application. We have the pdf sharepoint URL and when we open the document using the sharepoint URL, it is opening in browser only.

Hi @Jerin ,
SharePoint Online has not supported opening PDF files directly in client application, neither when opening directly from document library nor using a promoted link.

If you are using IE, you can check as following:

Click Open > Open in browser when you open the PDF file in the new tab. Per my test, this will open the PDF in Adobe PDF Reader in web version which provide better quality of the PDF file.

If you disable Adobe PDF Reader via IE > Settings > Manage Add-ons and then click Open > Open in browser, the browser will promote if you want to open or save the PDF file from SharePoint Online. Select “Open” and IE will open the PDF file with client application.

Our web application does not support in IE. We are looking for a solution on opening document in Abode online instead of the Abode reader in the client machine.
