I need to update mstsc to resolve some problems. I copy from these files from another windows 10 2004 computer to my win10 1809 computer and replace the same local files:

  • mstsc.exe
  • mstsc.mfl
  • mstsc.mof
  • mstsc.exe.mui
  • mstscax.dll
  • mstscax.mfl
  • mstscax.mof
  • mstscax.dll.mui

Then I open mstsc.exe, the ui background image and the more option button disappear. Is there any more related files required to replace?

    Hi,

In such situation, the only way is to search the key workd "mstsc" in C drive to export all mstsc related program files.

Actually, Windows 10, version 1809 will reach the end of servicing on November 10, 2020. So, it should be better to update the windows to 2004.

    Hi,

Actually, we do not suggest this way to update mstsc. You will find there are more than one mstscax.dll files if you search it. Also, these files needed to be registered after you copy them into the new computer. And we still cannot ensure it can work well after all files are copied and registered.

May I know why you don't want to update the win 10 1809 to 2004?

Please run "winver" in CMD to display your OS version and share the screenshot.

If you wouldn't like to update the windows, we suggested you could install the latest release of Microsoft Remote Desktop app from Microsoft Store instead of updating mstsc.

    Thanks,
