Working on an old Window 7 machine that has SP1 on it. Trying to use standalone installer for Perquisites. The update standalone install just keeps "searching for updates on this computer", for about 4 hours. What options do I have to install the perquisites?

Tried the automatic updates, it ran 24 hours did nothing.

Not much you can do. Windows 7 updates were not always cumulative so trying to install the latest may have caused you some grief here. I'd probably just clean install it again.

Updating windows 7 after a clean installation is generally a very slow process. The simplest method is to turn on automatic updating and let it work sometimes overnight. There is no service pack two. Updates ended Jan. 2020 unless you have purchased extended security updates.

    • Change Windows Update settings to "Never check for updates"
    • Reboot, or manually stop wuauserv service
    • Manually install servicing stack update KB4490628
    • Manually install sha-2 support update KB4474419 (don't reboot yet)
    • Manually install Windows Update Client update KB3138612, and reboot
    • You can search Windows Update now (and restore settings to your choice)
