Hello,

I've set up a fax server and I'm wondering where I can find information on the following directories:

Particularly I'm looking to find out what is stored in each directory and for how long (I'm also working on a script that will clean out the contents of each directory).

Some of these seem kinda self explanatory given the title the folders but I can't seem to find official documentation on this.

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\ActivityLog
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Common Coverpages
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Inbox
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Queue
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Queue_Migrated
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\SentItems
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\VirtualInbox

    @Jose Resendiz

I used to work at MS and the Fax team was a part of the Print Spooler team until the print team got reorged after Windows 7.

The Fax stuff was moved to another country but really never had any owner since mid 2011.

I expect that to still be the case. I hope I am wrong.

If you actually pay some funds to MS, I am sure someone can dig up the answers but even in 2012, from the print teams perspective Fax was dead so never got any love.

    Thanks

    Hello @Jose Resendiz

Microsoft doesn't have any official detail over the file structure, since it is not recommended to delete or manipulate the folders of the Fax service folders, since they contain system files that are required for the functioning of the service.

What it could be achieved would be to monitor the files and filenames that are created based on documents created (Inbox, Queue, and SentItems) to delete specific documents created during transmissions.

Hope this helps with your query,
