Hello @Greensboro Shrub Nursery - Thank you for contacting us!

I see that you have installed Azure backup agent on Windows 11 and getting an error "Resource not provisioned in service stamp". This error occurs when the protected server is renamed.

To fix this error, perform the following:

    • Rename the server back to the original name as registered with the vault.
    • Re-register the server to the vault with the new name.

FYI: Windows 11 is still not officially supported with Azure backup agent. Please refer to the support matrix here - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-support-matrix-mars-agent#supported-operating-systems

    Hope this helps!

@JC If you keep the same name for your PC and re-register it to the Azure Backup vault, the backup will continue incrementally with the backup that is already there. This is because Azure Backup uses a unique identifier for each registered machine, which is based on the machine name and the machine ID. If you keep the same machine name, Azure Backup will recognize the machine as the same one that was previously registered and will continue with the existing backup.

However, if you change the machine name, Azure Backup will treat it as a new machine and will start a new backup. In this case, you will need to perform a full backup of the machine, which may take longer than an incremental backup.

It's important to note that if you change any hardware or software configurations on the machine, such as adding or removing disks or changing the operating system, Azure Backup may not be able to continue with the existing backup and may require a new full backup.
