as shortcuts are files (extension .lnk): without write access the user should not be able to create shortcuts in the desktop folder
In Windows 10, if you restrict a user's write access to the desktop, will they still be able to put shortcuts on their desktop?
I'm an IT admin looking for a way to prevent Windows 10 users from saving files on their desktop (and forcing them instead to only save files on network shares). If I follow the instructions described in this thread (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/WINDOWS/en-US/67690865-2e96-45b2-a457-c65b6cdb332d/restrict-user-to-save-file-on-desktopdocumentsand-etc?forum=winserverGP) will the Windows users still be able to put shortcuts on their desktop, or would restricting write access to the desktop as described on the thread also prevent them from putting shortcuts on their desktop?
Thank you for your insights.
