SSIS project supported in VS2022?

Got error opening SSIS project in VS2022

and read from articles from internet (dated Nov 2021) that VS2022 does not support SSIS project yet.

Would like to check if SSIS project is STILL not supported in VS2022.

You may refer download-sql-server-data-tools-ssdt mentioned below:

The extensions for Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services projects are not available for Visual Studio 2022 temporarily.

Supporting VS2022 is on our radar, but there's no exact ETA now.

As said hereSQL Server Integration Services Projects.

You may use VS2019 to support SSIS project.

Can someone kindly explain to me why this is a thing in 2024, even after selecting the Data Storage and Processing option in the VS2022 installer? Because of course, SSDT install failed with the usual "umm .... something happened ... somewhere? Maybe in the middle?" error message at the end of the install.

SSDT lifespan ended with VS2017. Starting with VS2019 onwards you need to install "SQL Server Integration Services Projects" extention for VS2019 or VS2022.

Not yet.
VS 2022 is 64-bit app. Though the VS2019 SSIS extension is 32-bit.
We need to be patient and wait.

I am not developing some hobby project. If I am patient and simply wait, then hundreds of people downstream have to wait as well.

How patient. It's now November of 2023. VS 2022 is 2 years old and an SSIS project is still not supported.

Maybe by the time VS2024 shows up, but I'm not holding my breath.

Meanwhile, VS2019 continues to be a solid option for now at least.

It's almost as if the release of VS2022 snuck up on them unannounced lol

Be happy you get a VS2019 to use. I have a new machine with VS2022 and it will not allow a later installation of VS2019. I simply get an 'Unspecified Error' message. It was never good in the past to try and install an older version, but instead of fixing that, they just throw an exception and are done with it.

That's odd. Have you tried uninstalling VS2022 and doing VS2019 first? I run both VS2019 and VS2022 side-by-side on a Windows Server 2019 VM with no such issues.

I work at a company that restricts what I can have on my machine. It took weeks to get approved for VS2022. It took another 2 weeks to get them to approve the installation of VS2019. I am not sure if I am even allowed to uninstall VS2022 without approval. It is difficult enough to deal with IT now. I will investigate outside Microsoft simply because Microsoft decided this release schedule would be better for them.
