Hi, I'm thinking about buying windows server essentials for setting up a small windows domain of 1 server and up to 10 clients. I will use this server for allowing mwi and ms mpi (HPC) working properly in multiple nodes, my questions are:
1.- I've seen that ms mpi needs nodes tasks run on to belong to a windows domain (active directory), is that right? Windows servers essentials 2022 comes with everything necessary for setting up active directories (and so windows domains)?
2.- I should be able to run as well mwi commands from one machine to another one belonging to same the AD right?
3.- Clients in this version do not need any extra license (CLA) to connect to this windows domain right?

Just an FYI that Windows Server Essentials is available only through OEM Server Hardware partners. So it must be purchased with new hardware.

Check with any of the major server hardware vendors, they should be able to get you set up.

Hi, and again thank you for your quick response. Lets see if you can point us in the right direction:
We are not really interested in buying new hardware since we already have it, so it seems essential edition is not for us. Our plan is just to have a set of 6 or 7 client machines connected to this server in a private windows domain and no more than that.
We could think about having a standard edition but there the problem is having client license for every client which exceeds budget. And finally we maybe could purchase for 2019 standard windows server license but there I'm not sure if this one comes as well with the client licenses requirement (2019 essential windows server license is as well with through OEM Server Hardware partners?)

Server 2019 Essentials is likely still available via third party sellers. Just make sure the vendor is legit.
