Wanted to understand how Microsoft connected cache compliment Delivery Optimization so that we can save bandwidth for machines that are connected to VPN or Internet using Azure or SCCM.

In my environment, we have both co-managed and Hybrid PCs.

Can someone share working mechanism for these 2 technology both with respect to Azure and SCCM.

MCC has no value for systems connected to the Internet.

Depending on the scenario, MCC may have no value for systems connected via VPN.

Also, MCC is only useful for DO enlightened components and their content, e.g., software updates, O365 updates, and Win32 apps in Intune.

Where exactly are you trying to save bandwidth?

Now, people who are connected from office uses internet link to download these updates which creates a high bandwidth utilization.

As of 1910, ConfigMgr clients can directly use DO: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/sum/deploy-use/optimize-windows-10-update-delivery#bkmk_DO-1910.

If these clients are connected via a VPN though as noted, there will be little to no value though. Instead VPN connected clients should be configured to use split-tunneling to retrieve the update content directly from Microsoft using their own connection and not the VPN.
