Microsoft Edge IE Mode

Hi,

Our web application working fine so far in IE11 and we recently started using Microsoft Edge. We started using IE mode in edge for for application but running into issues with loosing session values when we navigate between windows using window.open java script function. I tried all settings in cookies and session are but none of them working. How to retain session values in IE mode when launch new windows from modal windows ?

Hi @Sam Teddy ,

According to your description, I want to know if the new page opened by window.open() is also in Edge IE mode? This may be the cause of the problem, because Edge IE mode pages are actually running IE tabs, and if the new page running in Edge instead of IE mode, by default Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer processes do not share session cookies. Simple refer to this doc: Cookie sharing from Microsoft Edge to Internet Explorer.

In this case, you can try adding the new page to the IE mode sitelist as well, which should solve your problem.

Thank you. We open new pages in IE mode only with window.open() we never use Edge once we open pages in IE mode. I understand we cannot share cookies between IE mode and Edge.

Hi @Sam Teddy ,

How did you open the modal window? I opened it via window.open() and found that it works correctly. I opened the modal popup(window 1) with IE mode from Edge page(Index) and set the cookie, then opened the new page(window 2) with IE mode and show cookie. Something like this result.

We are using Window.showModalDialog for launching modals. This is very old web application. Window.open works fine but issue with showModalDialog.

Hi @Sam Teddy ,

Well, I tested the Window.showModalDialog() and I found that it does have the problem you mentioned. But there are some differences here, the page finally opened by Window.open() is in IE instead of Edge IE mode, which I guess might be the cause of the problem. I suggest that you can report this issue to the relevant team, press Shift + Alt + i in Edge to edit your issue and send it.

In addition, you can also implement your requirement through the method I mentioned.

Hi,

I didn't get much help on this so far but what we noticed when we launch windows from showModalDialog modals they are launching in internet explorer instead of edge IE Mode. We added URL in default browser list and took care of all steps for edge IE mode.
