Hello,

Our organization is using SQL Server 2008 R2. We do not wish to upgrade it to latest version due to cost implications and dependency on the associated application version.

I read that extended support ended for SQL Server 2008 R2 ended in July 2019. Is there a way to extend this for few more years?

Thanks!

July 2019 was already the end date for the extended support, there is not more to extend.

    Hi @Shashank PS ,

Is there a way to extend this for few more years?

As per the policy, there is no way to extend more years, because after the end of the Extended Support period there will be no patches or security updates.
So we recommend upgrading to the latest versions of our software to continue to get regular security updates, either in Azure or on-premises.

To be honest, I am not sure whether there is other methods to meet your requirements, you can consult the license team for details:
For detailed information about the license issue, please call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. For international customers, please use the https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/licensing/worldwide to find contact information in your locations. Or you can go to https://www.microsoft.com/licensing/servicecenter/Help/Contact.aspx. Please choose region/language and choose to call or have web. People there will help you more effectively.
