Purview SQL Server scan through SHIR returns success but no assets found

We're trying to scan an 'on-premise' SQL Server database in Purview via a self hosted integration runtime.

The diagnostic connection test works, setting the scope when creating the scan brings back all tables.

The initial full scan completes in a minute, but returns no assets discovered. The scan status shows as successful.

Has anybody else had the same experience?

Thanks for the question and using MS Q&A platform.

As we understand the ask here is that you when you tried to scan the On-prem SQL server using Azure Purview and SHIR, you noticed that the scan completes in 1minute, but no asserts are discovered though the scan was successful. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

When you say The initial Full Scan completes in 1 minute are you scanning all the assets or a limited information?

It would be great if you could share the scan run ID for further investigation.

Hi Kranthi,

We are scanning all assets discovered in the database the scan was scoped to, yes.

One of the run id's is 96c6a11f-b66e-47af-89ae-2c95b17dadb6

I did investigate based the details you have provided but unfortunately no luck in identifying the root cause. If you still facing the issue, would recommend to file a support case for deeper investigation. Incase if you don't have a support plan, please let me know here.

We found the issue: our firewall was configured to allow a specific process to access the SQL Server, but when scanning the SHIR uses a different process (Microsoft.DataMap.Agent.Connectors.Azure.DataFactory.ServiceHost.exe) which was blocked. I’m not sure which process was allowed beforehand.

When that process was allowed, the scan completed successfully.
