Windows update 2012 error 80072efd

Question

Just did a clean install on Server 2012 standard.
Added to my domain as a secondary controller
When trying to update, getting the 80072efd error

No proxy
using microsoft for the update, no WSUS
I have turned off enhanced security and windows firewall/defender

I have followed this tread with no luck

In my update.log file I still see the error referencing the proxy server.

Might try manual download and install the latest SSU

followed by the latest cumulative update.
