Dear experts,

I guess it was WPS cause. The scenario is that

  1. after I installed WPS along with Office suite, when I right-click trying to new an excel spreadsheet, there were options for xls and xlsx.
  2. I thought these were excel spreadsheet but I found that the standard icon name should be Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet, so these xls and xlsx were actually WPS file formats.
  3. I tried to open these xls or xlsx files by excel, it always prompting that the format is not match.
  4. However when I logged in as admin, I still can open them by using Excel, without asking me to click YES to open. Any idea why? Why non-admin users need to click YES but admin doesn't, can we also allow non-admin users to open them directly?
  5. Can we have Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet option when we right-click trying to new an Excel format sheet?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi @Eaven HUANG ,
In my opinion, WPS has modified some registry keys to cause problems.
Try this method to help you resolve the problem:

    1. Click Win+R, enter the regedit
    2. Under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, you can find the .xls, .xlsx
    3. Modiy the value to:
      xls: Excel.Sheet.8
      xlsx: Excel.Sheet.12

    Hope the information is helpful.
