Hi,

need help please.

I searching information about SQL Azure VM licensing.

In case I migrate a Windows server Machine from on-premise to Azure, the Perpetual SQL License on board still is valid or not?

so, my question is: I have to buy a Sql license with SA although i am migrating a complete machine on azure with a perpetual license on board?

thanks so much

You can take advantage of Azure Hybrid Benefit for SQL Server if you own core licenses covered with Active Software Assurance (SA), if they are not covered by SA then the license type of the SQL VM on Azure will be Pay-as-yo-go.

See license modes for Azure SQL VMs here.

Hi Alberto, it is not always needed to buy new licenses. Microsoft also accepts BYOL (Bring Your Own License) for SQL depending on the specific version and license terms License Mobility
As a general guideline, you can deploy licenses bought before October 1, 2019 on an Azure Dedicated Host without SA updated-licensing-rights-for-dedicated-cloud, after that date you need License Mobility (=SA)

Just search for BYOL SQL in the Marketplace.
