Missing Element 0x80070490

I did an upgrade from Win 10 to Win 11 several months ago (as soon as I was notified the upgrade was available for my PC via Update). The upgraded OS was acting strangely (too many odd issues to list or try to fix) so I decided to do a fresh install. I did that install to a 500gb 2.5 inch SSD drive that I had lying around so there would be no risk to my current install. Somehow that install did not have a boot partition so it was dependent on the old bootblock on a mirrored NVME 500gb drive. Now that I am comfortable with the new version with all my products installed, I wanted to move the installl back to the NVME drives. First I broke the mirror and then replaced the non-bootable NVME with a brand new 500gb NVME and was planning to make an image copy of the 2.5 SSD and restore that image to the new NVME and eventually mirror that drive and remove the 2.5 drive back to spare hardware. The image backup went smoothly but when I try to restore the backed-up image to the new NVME drive I get error 0x80070490 missing element. The drive is configured as a GPT, non-dynamic drive. Is there a way to make the drive that I want to "clone" (the drive with my satisfactory win 11 image, 2.5" SSD) bootable without damaging it?

    Hi @Steve White

I suggest converting your gpt drive to mbr by following this guide:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/change-a-gpt-disk-into-an-mbr-disk

Then use Disk Management to set partition bootable
Press “Windows+ R” to open Run box.
Right-click the partition you want to set as active. Then choose Mark Partition as Active.
Wait for the process to finish and then restart your computer.

I do hope this answers your question.

    Thanks.
