Hello,
I am trying to do a thing here and I am not sure if I chose a best way.
So, is there a easy way to get Page property filter in subsite to filter out news from hubsite?

In the subsites, you could edit News web part, select hubsite as News Source, then select Managed Property as filter, choose NewsCategory.

I have tried this, but there is no such Property (properties does not get inherited to subsites from hub).
Site column will not automatically create managed property. You could create a new managed property in the SharePoint admin center, map the crawled property to the managed property. After crawl, go to News web part, choose NewsCategory as filter.

I think it does automatically create managed property!
I have got it fixed by reindexing List library and now I can select it in subsites.
