Android autofill - Edge vs Authenticator, and manual password entry?

Hello,

I am planning to switch on my Android from Google or from LastPass, to use Microsoft Authenticator app or Edge browser for Autofill provider (also known as password manager).

I have tested both Android apps from Microsoft and logged in with my only private Microsoft Account and both are working, synchronizing and entering data.

I have questions:

  1. What is the difference in Authenticator and Edge as autofill provider? What is newer, and has a future inside Microsoft? (Regarding features, support, and other perspective)
  2. How can I manually create a new password entry via Android , via Edge or Authenticator apps?
  3. Is there a plan for other secure data storage (like LastPass has - "Notes"), where I can put my bank card PIN or office door pin. (such a secrets normally do not have a URL, but sometimes have several secret data fields for entry/store)
  4. Is there a difference (in storage?) for Edge and Edge Dev, both recent Android apps from Google Play Store, when logged in with same Microsoft account, about syncing passwords, addresses etc. ?

Thank you,

Kind regards

    Hi @Hrvoje Kusulja ,

What is the difference in Authenticator and Edge as autofill provider? What is newer, and has a future inside Microsoft? (Regarding features, support, and other perspective)

I don't know much about the Microsoft Authenticator app, and according to its configuration description, I see that its autofill function only works on passwords for a specific app or site. It looks like the features are more complete in Edge, but I think they may have been designed for different reasons, so I can't say which one is better, it all depends on the user's needs.

How can I manually create a new password entry via Android , via Edge or Authenticator apps?

As far as I know, none of them can manually create passwords, the only thing you can do is import password data from elsewhere, such as chrome or CSV file.

Is there a plan for other secure data storage (like LastPass has - "Notes"), where I can put my bank card PIN or office door pin. (such a secrets normally do not have a URL, but sometimes have several secret data fields for entry/store)

If you do need this feature in Edge, you can send your suggestion to the relevant team, just press shift + alt + i and edit the suggestion to send it.

Is there a difference (in storage?) for Edge and Edge Dev, both recent Android apps from Google Play Store, when logged in with same Microsoft account, about syncing passwords, addresses etc. ?

As far as I know, there is no difference in how they are stored, as long as you enable sync, all devices logged into the same account will be able to get sync data.
