Hi, Currently we have DPM physical servers running on our on-premise spread across 20 geographical sites which is using disk and tape level backups.

We have requirement to discontinue DPM and move entire DPM disk & tape data to Azure Backup and finally use Azure as a backup service. Please let us know if this is possible.

@Nikhil Lotia - Welcome to Microsoft Q&A and thanks for reaching out.

Tape data can be backed up to Azure using Azure Databox.

This databox usage suggestion is provided for scenario of complete migration to cloud.

Please take a look at these docs for more info:

    UPDATE :

Here is the update for your questions below:

    • Can we migrate existing disks and tape data to Azure backup solution?
      • No
    • Can we decommission DPM from on premise post DPM data migration and use Azure backup as the only backup solution?
      • No
    • Databox can be used as a one time data migration to Azure. Consider it as taking data and dumping it in a storage account. Then you can configure Azure backup. But Azure Backup won't be managing the data that is migrated.

Hope this helps. and please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
