Word cannot open third-party plug-ins

Question

When I open the third-party formula editor “Axmath” or “mathtype”, Word prompts "The program used to create this object is Equation. This program is not installed on your computer or is not responding. To edit this object, install Equation or make sure that any dialogs in Equation are closed."

Office for home and Student edition 2016

Before, the formula editor could be opened normally on the original Office of the laptop. However, after I uninstalled Office and re-downloaded and installed it on the official website, the above error message appeared.

After I tried the solution provided by the third-party（Axmath）, I still could not solve the problem.

I am not familiar with Axmath, but you can check the web site for MathType if you need to install an updated version: https://www.wiris.com/en/mathtype/.

Older versions of Word used to include a limited version of MathType, but that version was discontinued in 2018 (see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/equation-editor-6eac7d71-3c74-437b-80d3-c7dea24fdf3f).

According to your description, I suggest you perform Online Repair for Office from Control Panel.

Besides, please press Win and P at the same time, select "PC screen only" to check this issue.

If these steps do not work, you can uninstall third-party plug-ins, use "uninstall tool" (Mentioned on the link above) to remove Office, then re-install them to have a check.
