Creating a custom field in Project Online using AD

I want to create a custom field in Project Online that will allow us to select someone from our active directory. This custom field will be added to a details page. I know there isn't anything out of the box to make this happen, so how do I make this happen?
A people picker script was shared with me but I don't know how I would "attach" it to a custom field. Any help is appreciated.
