Caligari Truespace Open Source REMAKE

Over 10 years ago Microsoft bought Caligari and their flagship product TrueSpace 3D (3D Modelling/Animation Package). The software was highly regarded under hobbyists and semi-professionals because of it's well structured visual user interface. Sadly Microsoft dropped further developement of TrueSpace a couple of years later and today TrueSpace is no more. Now in 2020 I'm asking myself if it would be possible to create an open source remake of TrueSpace (I have v4.2 in mind cause imho the introduction of the workspace was a horrible idea) or would there be legal issues? Microsoft owns the rights to TrueSpace and I would like to know if Microsoft would have a problem with an open source TrueSpace.

The plan is to only copy the user interface and not the name so the app would only look like TrueSpace and not have the same name. There would be also some very minor changes to the look and inner workings to be a little more up to date.

So what's Microsoft's position on that idea?
