Hi,

We are a server running under Windows Server 2012 R2. This is a RDS server.
Printer server is running under windows 2019.

Everything was working fine until an imprompt restart of all server (electricity cut).

Now, the printer are gone from the RDS server and when i try to add them back using the \printserver UNC way, i got the error code cannot contact printer 0x000006.

I have found serveral article about this and all of them are saying to delete this regeditry key after a backup :Client Side Rendering Print Providers
located here : HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Providers

However, as soon as i delete it, the RDS server run into a blue screen.
I have tried several time but not working.

As workaround for now, i have installed all the printer directly into the RDS server, but i'd like to solve this.

Thank you for your advices.

See if one of these troubleshooters can identify and fix the problem(s):

    (Click view detailed information)

Administrative command prompt or administrative Powershell:

    msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic
    msdt.exe -id DeviceCenterDiagnostic
    msdt.exe -id PrinterDiagnostic

    @Docs

    Error 6 is invalid handle.

Not sure why a power outage would result in that error.

Can you add a fake shared printer on the server using a different print driver?

Is the connection failure still error 6?

That reg key should not cause a blue screen.

Take a look at the folder structure under C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3

There should not be a bunch of number ed folders, there should be mainly files.

Look a few folders up to \prtprocs.

Anything odd? Compare to a working system

    Hi @jerome bellegarde

When you deleted the above registry key, did you restart the print spooler service before rebooting the server or does it bluescreen immediately without a reboot?

Please ensure that you're just deleting the key (client Side Rendering Print Providers) and not the whole group within AD?
