Domain name expert Advise request.

We are using google workspace with our website domain. I need to install my local domain controller for directory services. Through this write I need an expert advice for domain name.

Should I use same domain name "domain.edu.pk" for local DC or it should be "domain.local"

Also we have to configure emails which is configured on google server.

Hi,

I recommend you to choose "domain.local" , to avoid any conflict with external DNS zone.
When you choose "domain.local" for your local domain, you will prevent DNS resolution conflict with your external DNS zone and your local computer and server will able to resolve it, because the local DNS server will able to forward DNS request to external DNS.

If you have Apple computers in your environment and they are accessing domain based resources, you should avoid a domain name ending in .local. As Apple computers will not send queries for .local to the server and will fail to resolve.

Yes I confirm , you should avoid choosing Domain Name ending with .local for your local domain name if you have apple devices. for more details you can refer to the following link : Apple devices might not open your internal network’s ‘.local’ domain
