Avoid notification when app is in foreground

Hello. I implemented azure notification in my xamarin app. Everything is working fine but I noticed different behaviour between iOS and Android when app is in foreground. iOS receives notification even when app is in foreground, Android doesn’t. I would like to AVOID receiving notification when app is in foreground. How can I achieve that?

Could you please confirm if you are using the Azure Notification Hubs SDK for Apple Legacy APIs. Any specific document you are following? which methods you are using in case of iOS? Could you please elaborate to help you better on this.

- Hub is setup correctly, no issue
- I started to use official code by microsoft (https://learn.microsoft.com/it-it/azure/developer/mobile-apps/notification-hubs-backend-service-xamarin-forms#configure-the-native-android-project-for-push-notifications) but then I moved to Randy del Rosario plugin (https://github.com/CrossGeeks/AzurePushNotificationPlugin), it seems it's easier for me.
- I noticed that devices receive notifications even when app is in foreground and I would like to avoid this. I'd like to receive only when app is in background or killed.
ps: now I get this behavior on iOS and android too
any idea?

sadomovalex 3,636 Reputation points2022-03-29T15:16:18.747+00:00 based on Android documentation in order to receive push notifications in foreground you need to do extra step - Receive messages in an Android app:
Firebase notifications behave differently depending on the foreground/background state of the receiving app. If you want foregrounded apps to receive notification messages or data messages, you’ll need to write code to handle the onMessageReceived callback. For an explanation of the difference between notification and data messages, see Message types.
For iOS the following thread contains useful info Get push notification while App in foreground iOS:
Bear in mind that this answer is true only for iOS 9 and lower. Since iOS 10, Apple introduced a new API to handle notifications (the UNUserNotificationCenter API). Along with the new API, now it is possible to show the notifications if the application is in the foreground. So if you are confused because the different answers in this question, it is because some of the answers are too old, and only describe the behavior for iOS 9 and before, whereas the other ones do not take into account that the UNUserNotificationCenter is only available from iOS 10
