How To Set Up A VM With A Student Account?

I am new to Azure. I have a Student Account.
I am having no success setting up a VM with a dbms.

Following the prompts for what I thought was a "minimal configuration" had a cost of $348 a month.

Is there documentation for a true beginner?

Please look at this guide that has considerations for Azure Virtual Machines DBMS deployment dbms_guide_general
You can consider the most comfortable and easiest DBMS workload for deployment for example, Microsoft SQL. If this is for learning or testing you can plan to delpoy a smaller size VM with SQL

Regretfully, as an "Answer", it was not helpful.

The Azure page you pointed to has changed, radically.
I got to [https://portal.azure.com/#create/hub]. I was able, in a way, to follow the directions you gave me.

Home > Create a Resource > Marketplace > Create a Virtual Machine

But when I fill the form, there is an issue with the [Size] field. There are no sizes to select.
Even better, when attempting to set up a support ticket, there was no choice for "no sizes to select".

I am of the opinion that such a construct is not allowed for Student Subscriptions.

i addition to HallRichardP-1395: It looks like a couple of people have the same issue (the Size field is empty to select a VM SKU) since a few days. If you take a look on the tag azure-virtual-machine you will find similar threats as well.
Maybe the issue is not related to one person/account.

What I need is a step-by-step guide that matches the current Azure site.
Having gone through the process many times, the current pages do nothing to help a new Azure user with a student account.

Trying to set up a Redhat server with SQL Server fails because when directed to select a "Size", there a no sizes to pick from.

There might be some capacity issues in the data center that will not allow you to create few VMs. The option is to change the region and give it a try. With the free account, I can create a VM in West Europe. Can you please give it a try by changing the region?

I have tried East, East 2, and Central. The list of sizes is always empty.
