Dear migration experts.

When migrating a mailbox from office365 back to On premises. i would like to know what would be the value for target address in mail user contact in office365. My dns entries like autodiscovery SRV record and spf is pointing to Office 365 and i don't want to change anything in DNS unless migration is complete. office365 mailbox is converted to mail user contact with target address which is used for routing a mailbox to on-premises. What is best standard policy for this without changing DNS migrated mailbox should be directed to onpremise. If i use on-premise domain name like contoso.com then autodiscovery authenticating Office365 not redirecting to on-premises.

Mailbox is migrated fine to on-premises i can even login into owa using on-permises user but i am not able to authenticate in outlook as its trying to pick the autodiscover of office365.

    @Zeeshan Butt

    Glad to see you could migrate mailbox to Exchange on-premises and could use it in OWA successfully.

    About client access, in a hybrid organization, if there still exists mailbox on the Exchange on-premises, you need to point the Autodiscover record to the Exchange on-premises.

    Otherwise, this mailbox will cannot be used in Outlook. Because the Outlook client needs to use Autodiscover to configure profile. OWA doesn't need to use Autodiscover.

    Hi,

    Thanks for answer. When i change Autodiscover to on-premises i am able to connect but the think is that i have tons of mailbox that reside on office365 and i want to them to connect in outlook as well and i will be migrating the mailbox gradually. in this case mailbox on office365 fail to authenticate. In Such case do i have to focus anything special.
