Laptop in sleep mode

I am a college student and use my laptop everyday. I am constantly storing my laptop and taking it out of my backpack between classes. Is it ok to keep my laptop on sleep mode as I move between classes or should I power off? I have both an ssd and hhd so it doesn’t take very long to power on an off but I have read forums that suggest frequently powering on and off hurts the battery. Sometimes it seems that my fans are still running when I put my laptop in sleep mode so I am worried about my laptop being in my bag.

    Hi @DAVID PARKER MANCUSO ,

The tag(vs-general) discusses about general questions of Visual Studio. Your issue is more related to Windows. You can ask a question in dedicated forum: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum?sort=LastReplyDate&dir=Desc&tab=All&status=all&mod=&modAge=&advFil=&postedAfter=&postedBefore=&threadType=All&isFilterExpanded=false&page=1.

About your question, you can view the document: Shut down, sleep, or hibernate your PC.

Sleep uses very little power, your PC starts up faster, and you’re instantly back to where you left off. Use Sleep when you’re going to be away from your PC for just a little while.
If you don’t feel like saving all your work but you need to go away for a while, you can select Hibernation or shut down your PC.

By the way, it is not recommended that you frequently shartup and shutdown. And, if you keep your PC in sleep mode all the time, your PC tends to slow down. It is recommended to shutdown your computer every once in a while to free memory.

    Sincerely,
    Anna
