Any issue with installing both SOFS and File server for general use roles on the same server ? Traditional is used for normal file usage (home directories) etc and SOFS for vhdx files.

    Hey,

You can have multiple shares configured in a Failover Cluster. The following thread should help:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/33ca902e-0c4e-494e-bb52-5d7d06fe74f6/how-many-file-server-roles-can-a-single-failover-cluster-have?forum=winserverClustering

You should be able to configure both SOFS and File Server for General Use on the same cluster. The following guide should help with the configuration:
    https://www.starwindsoftware.com/resource-library/starwind-virtual-san-for-hyper-v-2-node-hyperconverged-scenario-with-windows-server-2016/

    Cheers,

    Hi @Michael Parisi

I see no reason why they would conflict on the same server. However, they do perform very different roles. SOFS is for the Hyper-V environment and File Server is a role for a virtual server within your VM infrastructure.

    Information about SOFS:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/failover-clustering/sofs-overview

I hope this answers your question.

    Thanks.
