I have an internal email server which is not configured to receive email from internet and I'm using Exchange online as our internet receiving email services. There is no MX record for the internal email server.

I would like to configure a email forwarding to my internal email server when there's any email sent to my mailbox in Exchange online. For example:

Internet email > usercloud@keyman .com > userlocal@sub .domain.com

I'm thinking to perform the following but Im not sure whether this is the correct way or is there any better way to achieve this.

  1. Configure a connector in Office 365 to route email message to on-prem server
  2. Set the connector to use only when email messages are sent to sub.domain.com
  3. Create a transport rule to forward email from usercloud@keyman .com to userlocal@sub .domain.com

Looking forward for any advises.
