Certification Authorities for ClickOnce deployment
I have been distributing my software using ClickOnce, signed with a test certificate. When Windows 10 users click the download the dialog pauses on a a screen
Windows protected your PC
Microsoft Defender Smartscreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting ....
More Info
and a button [Don't Run]
By clicking More Info another button [Run Anyway] appears, you can click that, and the ClickOnce continues.
Windows 11 users don't get the [Run Anyway] button, so it is not possible for them to install and run my software. Presumably this is a deliberate change to improve security.
Please confirm that I need to solve this problem by purchasing a trusted certificate from a Certification Authority. Do I need a particular type of certificate, or doesn't it matter? A quick search found several authorities, with prices ranging from $69/yr to $374.67/yr. Is there any reason to choose a more expensive option?
