Best way to move app insights to log analytics workspace in another subscription

Question

I have read the docs on both moving resources from one subscription to another, and migrating Application Insights to collect in workspace based, but my question is:

Should I migrate the App Insights instance to Log Analytics Workspace in the existing subscription, and then move the whole resource group over to the new subscription?

or

Create the new Log Analytics Workspace in the new subscription, move the resources, except the metric alerts which wont move.. and then move the alerts to the new Log Analytics Workspace?

It's not clear from the docs which is the way to do it.

@Donald PERKINS Welcome to Microsoft Q & A community Forum. I understand that you are trying to move application insights from one subscription to another subscription.

1. You can move Classic Application Insights from one subscription to another subscription without migrating it to Log Analytics workspace. To do so, you can open the application insights resource -> click on move hyperlink which beside subscription property in Overview pane as shown in below

Then select the subscription and resource group you want to move your resource.

2 . You can move application insights resource directly or you can migrate it to Log Analytics workspace and move it. The move process is same as mentioned in previous step.

Note : Classic Application Insights is being retired on 29 February,2024. It is recommended to create workspace-based application insights.
