How do I migrate file share folders (with contents) into a SharePoint online Document Set?

I'm migrating network file folders to a SharePoint Document library. I'd like the folder to be created as a Document Set vs. a folder. Is there a way to do that? I'd also like to automate the meta-data for the Document Set with the folder name & possibly other details. Any way to do that besides manually?

You can migrate file share folders (with contents) into a SharePoint Online Document Set using Microsoft SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT). For more information, please see "Overview of the SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT)" article.

Here is my test:

1.Start a new migration task

2.Select "File share" option

3.Enter or paste the source url and select "Migrate selected folder and folder contents" option

4.Choose "SharePoint" option

5.Enter or paste the SharePoint url

6.Click "Migrate"

This looks like exactly what I need. I've done some testing and haven't gotten the "Document Set" dropdown to appear in that "Select a Destination" step. It is a customized doc set, would that make a difference? Any suggestions?

Can you tell me the details of the issue you faced? If you can, please attach screenshots.

This helps us solve problems better.

How to enable Document Set in Document Library?

1.Go to Site Settings >> Site Collection Features and make sure that the Document Sets feature is activated.

2.Go to Library settings page and navigate to Advance settings and make sure that Allow Managed Content Type is set to true.

3.Go back to Library settings page and then assign Document Set content type to the library
