I want to keep Office 2010 on my home computer. If I only open it when I am off line, does that make it safe? If not, why not. I need to know what to do so I don't spend money I don't need to.

    Hi @Bill Northrup ,

The support for Office 2010 will end on October 13, 2020.

You can still use the software but it means that there are no support for following areas:

    • Technical support for issues
    • Bug fixes for issues that are discovered
    • Security fixes for vulnerabilities that are discovered

If you are not online, you can more safely use Office 2010.

    Hi Bill,

Unfortunately, I could not assure you it is absolutely safe even you use Office 2010 offline in future.

After Microsoft stopped supporting, there is no security updates or bug fixes released for Office 2010. Not sure if there is any unknown loopholes of Office 2010 discovered in future and be exploited to create threats.
Although you only open Office 2010 when offline, some threats have the opportunity to invade your computer if you connect to the Internet to download files, open some links or do other regular use, these threats may be detrimental to your Office 2010 program or Office files.

So a kind reminder, please upgrade your Office product when reaching the end of lifecycle of Office 2010.

    Hi All,
What does the Antivirus software do then if it doesn’t stop security breaches?
I'm happy using Office 2010 as it does what I need and don't want to spend on upgrading if I don't need to.
