Hi,

One of our use case requires a mapping between user's current workstation and printer for printing bills.
In order to determine the user's current workstation hostname, currently ActiveX is being used. However, ActiveX shall be discontinued. In such a case, what does Microsoft suggest as the alternative capability for hostname determination of client's workstation using browser?

Thanks

    Hi @Edison Alday ,

If you need to use ActiveX to implement mapping, then you can use Edge IE mode. It supports ActiveX controls (except Silverlight).

    Just follow these steps:

    1. Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to edge://settings/defaultBrowser.
    2. Modify the value of the option Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode.
    3. Add the url of your application in Internet Explorer mode pages list.

In addition, you can also achieve this via Group Policy configuration, just refer to Configure IE mode policies.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the guidelines.
Meanwhile, please help enlighten - will there be any alternate or equivalent of ActiveX technology in Edge with similar capability?

    Thank you
