Unfortunately, this feature is not supported in Azure. I am curious of your use case for the tablespaces in PostgreSQL because in our PaaS environment we just allow you to select the storage size, while you have no control over the data disk itself, hence not clear what would be the benefit of creating tablespaces in Azure Database for PostgreSQL. As we are not allowed to create tablespace ourselves on Azure Database for PostgreSQL instance, I think we need to use an existing tablespace. which tablespace should we use when using Azure Database for PostgreSQL instance? Should we use pg_default tablespace?

I got this question because we have some existing and complex scripts which work before on premise and need be migrated to Azure. And in those scripts, we need to create and use tablespace.

And is there any Azure formal document about it? We may need those document to discuss with the team and update our design if needed.

There just 2 tablespaces

If a database is created without specifying a tablespace for it, it uses
the same tablespace as the template database it is copied from.
The pg_global tablespace is used for shared system catalogs. The pg_default tablespace is the default tablespace of the template1 and template0 databases
when you create a database without specifying the tablespace template1 is used.
