What is the inactivity interval for MS Teams after which an expiration email is sent out to the MS Teams Owner?

We have applied an expiration policy to a team, a team owner receives a notification for team renewal 30 days, 15 days, and 1 day before the team's expiration which is set as 180 days in Azure AD. When the team owner receives the notification, they can click Renew now in team settings to renew the team.
A Team Owner only receives a renewal notification if their team is inactive. If Office 365 detects activity in their Team (views count as activity, in this case), the team will auto-renew.

My question is - Does this mean that MS Team has to be inactive for 150 days before it will start to send out expiration emails to the MS Teams' owner?
How can I find MS Teams' inactivity details?
How can I monitor this and be proactive on my end?

You are right. MS Teams has to be inactive for 150 days before the process begin.

How can I find MS Teams' inactivity details?
How can I monitor this and be proactive on my end?

There are three main options to find inactive teams.

    • Activity Report with Power Shell
    • Microsoft Teams Usage Report in Office 365
    • Identifying inactive Teams using activity threshold
