SharePoint Online Custom Permissions

Using out of the box SharePoint Online. I have a library with a custom permission set with "Edit no delete" assigned to a SharePoint group. The custom permission set seems to operate at odds with Details Manage Access form. With the custom permissions assigned the Details Manage Access form for the group shows as Can view and users cannot add documents. If I change the Details Manage Access form for the group to Can edit, the default permissions for the group is altered to Contribute. Users can only add documents when the Details Manage Access form shows Can edit. Has anyone experienced this and what is the work around.

    @John S

    Could you provide some screenshots of your custom permission level?

    I have created a custom permission level as following picture shows. With this permission level, users can upload files but cannot delete files in the document library.

    Sorry, Emily haven't been monitoring my personal email account. Your notes pointed me to the error in permission set, while focusing on securing delete I omitted the edit item. All is good now. Ok to close out.
